I study independent and aspiring musicians’ content creation and distribution and I’m interested in how UGC affects labor and the meaning of work/careers in culture industries. While I mostly look at this from the perspectives of musicians, I’m also very intrigued by how the music industry is rethinking its relationship to musical “content” and its diminishing role in funding the creation of content. It would be great to talk with others about the variety of ways that users are generating content across cultural (and scientific) fields.

When developing a vocabulary for describing these projects I think we also need to be able to discuss their limitations. I look forward to the discussion.
