I am a social and cultural historian (Ph.D., Corcoran Department of History, University of Virginia, 2000) working at the intersection of several traditional and emerging fields: public history, digital humanities, historic preservation, and cultural landscape studies. From 2006-2010, I directed the Virginia Center for Digital History at the University of Virgina. There, with an NEH Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant, I worked with technology director Bill Ferster to develop VisualEyes — a tool that makes it easy to author graphically rich and interactive Web sites in collaborative teaching and learning environments. We continue to develop the tool with support from the Dean of the Architecture School and SHANTI (Sciences, Humanities and Arts Network of Technological Initiatives). This year I am teaching cultural landscapes V-sems (visualization seminars) in the U.Va. Architecture School and working on a schoolwide Sustainable Scholarship Initiative.
